UPDATE 24 August 2025 - the room is currently occupied by an International worker, who has not given a FIRM proposed vacating date. However, this will probably be within the months of September 2025 to December 2025, once he secures an alternative private rental premises - his parents are coming from overseas early in 2026 for a long visit and he needs a larger place to host them while they are in Australia.
The "available to" date (May 2026) is flexible. We prefer longer stays.
In a fantastic safe & quiet spot, easy walking distance to everything (400m or less) like shops, parks, transport, gyms, library, cafes.
Our home is about 3km from Melb CBD, and about 400m from Richmond Station. Richmond High School and Melbourne Girls College are a short distance away, both accessible by tram ride or bike.
An authentic Victorian-era cottage retaining its heritage look, it is VERY small, basic & historic.
The room offered is lockable and FULLY furnished with retro things - freestanding wardrobe, single-sized bed, 2 x bedside tables, chest of drawers, mirrors, small table/desk, 2 x chairs, blanket/storage box, laundry hamper & side lamps.
Gets good morning light, but can become reasonably dark after about 3pm - fantastic for people needing to sleep early!!
Bedlinen, bedding, the use of a separate small (150 litre) fridge, a bike, helmet & Utility bills are included in the rent. However, more than 'fair' use of the fan heater provided will result in MUCH higher power charges, so you may be asked to contribute extra.
Internet is included (BUT it is a basic slow plan for emailing/surfing, NOT gaming/streaming and it is TOTALLY unreliable, crashing frequently in the WHOLE neighbourhood).
Housemate hosts are two friendly and respectful mature-aged people to live with (over 40s, 1 international Male, 1 Aussie Female - not a couple) We are non smoking, non drinking, no substances. Quiet living and busy, as we work, study and volunteer!
Although we pretty much do a 'room hermit' lifestyle, due to work / study commitments, we make time to catch up with each other's lives.
Most often, we host international WHVs or English language students, and we enjoy helping our guests settle into life in Melb, as well as practise their English language fluency.
We live a reasonably wastage-free and environmentally-conscious lifestyle - we turn off lights and things not being used. The house is well insulated, so we put on a jumper & close doors /windows first, before simply turning on a heater.
We dry our laundry out in the open air and cook for ourselves, as we have different schedules.
Because the house is really small, it is a bit cluttery, but is kept clean. We aim to put things we have used back in their place promptly, but understand this is not always possible.
Our yard is an urban jungle which attracts birds and other wildlife. We ensure they have access to water, and occasionally we feed them :-)
