Welcome to The Berra Homestead in Thornbury, Victoria!

We have a fully furnished bedroom available for one adult which has all a university student, worker or traveller needs to study and live comfortably. A desk, double bed, couch, and built in wardrobe are yours to enjoy. The house has 4 bedrooms, two toilets, large laundry/bathroom and an open plan kitchen, dining and lounge area plus an under cover rear porch and well established gardens/lawns.

Our home is located in the leafy northern Melbourne suburb of Thornbury, with local parks, shops, cafes and transport very close by. It is a 3min walk to 112 tram line which takes you directly into the CBD within 30 minutes. This tram line passes Australian Catholic University on Brunswick St. Once into Melbourne CBD, connections to RMIT, Victoria Uni & Melbourne Uni can be found easily.

Two more tram lines are within walking distance; Tram 86 on High Street Thornbury goes to LaTrobe University in Bundoora. The other travels along Lygon St Brunswick to the CBD. The South Morang train line is also within easy walking distance of our front door.


About us:

We are an energetic couple; Jill speaks Spanish and is retired, Frank speaks Italian and works full time; our boxer dogs keep us happy. we are both well-travelled, have lived and worked in other countries and have experienced homestay accommodation when we were students too. Prior to COVID, We have had students and workers from Japan, Chile, Thailand and Switzerland stay with us. They became like family, and continue to keep in touch.

Our two adult children, a daughter (30) and a son (25), live near the beaches of the Mornington Peninsula - about an hour away - so family catch ups, activities and dinners are regular. Our homestay guests are always invited to join in whatever plans we have, so you won't ever feel isolated or alone.

We are an honest, talkative, fun and hardworking family that expects and returns respect for privacy, peace and quiet. You might like to know that we are Lutherans (Christians) who attend St Johns Southgate Lutheran Church in Melbourne City.

You must like (love?) dogs to live with us. We have 2 pure breed boxer dogs, Sky & Nox, who call this place home too. Sometimes we have visiting dogs too. All are well behaved, clean and playful. They will quickly love you back! As professional, registered Australian Kennel Council breeders, from time to time we breed pups under the prefix Alcance and compete in dog shows.
