Homestay in Travancore

I’m offering a welcoming homestay in my comfortable, fully furnished period home in Travancore, a quiet inner-Melbourne neighbourhood with excellent access to the University of Melbourne and the CBD.

Until recently, I lectured at the University of Melbourne in Digital Innovation and Technopreneurship. I really enjoyed working with students from many different countries and would enjoy welcoming an international or Australian student into my home.

The house is about a 5-minute walk from the Route 59 tram, which takes around 15 minutes to the University of Melbourne and 20 minutes to the CBD. Railway stations are also nearby, and IGA, Coles and Woolworths are all within walking distance.

This is a fully furnished home with comfortable living and dining areas, a well-equipped kitchen, laundry with washing machine and dryer, high-speed 5G internet and a large established back garden. I work mainly from my study, so I rarely use the living and dining areas. You are welcome to make yourself at home, watch TV, study or work in these spaces, and have friends visit or enjoy a picnic together in the garden.

Breakfast supplies are included – such as cereal/muesli, bread and spreads, milk, yoghurt, fruit, tea and coffee – for you to help yourself. Other meals are self-catered. You will have your own cupboard space and allocated space in the fridge and freezer, with cookware, crockery and kitchen utensils provided. I simply ask that you clean up after yourself after cooking.

I take care of the regular household cleaning, so there is no cleaning roster. Bed linen and towels are supplied and changed regularly, and I’m happy to make your bed with fresh linen if you would like.

I share the home with a friendly Cavoodle and an orange Norwegian Forest Cat, so this homestay will particularly suit someone who enjoys having animals around.

My aim is to provide somewhere that feels like your home while you are in Melbourne, while also giving you plenty of independence and privacy. If you are a university student and would find it useful, I’m also happy to offer occasional mentoring, coaching or simply be a sounding board for your studies.
